LAKE PLACID – Yes, we have the word “placid” in our name. Our village is certainly that for people who wish to visit our Upstate New York destination for rest and relaxation. But for those of you wishing to get the heart rate up, stand by for these adventure activities in the Adirondacks.

Summer bobsled ride
Bobsledding in the summer – that’s a joke, right? In Lake Placid – This link opens in a new window., this isn’t fiction. You can actually ride a wheeled bobsled – This link opens in a new window. with a trained driver and brakeman. They will bring your party down the lower half-mile of the combined bobsled, luge and skeleton run. This track is used all winter (from the very top) by the world’s top sliding athletes in training and international competition. Now’s your chance to take home bragging rights in an adrenaline-filled summer ride.
This experience includes a photo of your team, a lapel pin and commemorative T-shirt.
Experience Outdoors – This link opens in a new window. and the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex offer ziplines. The former builds 3 ziplines into its Adventure Park, which includes 38 suspended elements. You’ll start the process at lower heights and gradually progress further above ground. But don’t worry – you can use one of 3 exit points if you start to feel uncomfortable.
The latter venue will give you a ski jumper’s perspective like none other. It’s the Sky Flyer Zipline – This link opens in a new window., where you “fly” parallel to the ski jumps. As a bonus, you’ll enjoy spectacular 360-degree views of the Adirondack Mountains. This venue also includes a state-of-the-art gondola ride, and an elevator that takes you to the top of the 120-meter ski jump tower.
There you have it. Don’t let our name define the entire Lake Placid experience for you. Remember, this is the village where its reputation was carved by high-speed Olympic events. And you can get those same thrills in summer as well as winter.
