Our Sustainability Philosophy

At the Mirror Lake Inn, we strive to reimagine and improve the hotel, resort and dining experience. This means not only upgrading: rooms, common spaces and amenities, but bettering ourselves to serve all stakeholders both local and global. As lovers of the outdoors, it’s our responsibility to protect the natural resources that make Lake Placid and the Adirondacks special! In this spirit, we strive to always be better, do better and lead the Mirror Lake Inn into a cleaner and more sustainable future. For instance, we were the first property in Lake Placid to institute a comprehensive recycling program and have only driven forward from there.

During the summer of 2021, the Mirror Lake Inn began a business wide audit and subsequent overhaul in regards to how we approach sustainability and environmental stewardship. This begins with how we conduct our day to day operations and extends to the capital upgrades necessary to reach our goals.

The centerpiece of this effort is the installation of a 125+ Kilowatt rooftop solar project, which has reduced our demands on the local electrical grid by 450-500 kilowatt hours in a typical year. In conjunction with the solar array we have a master plan to install 14 state-of-the-art, networked EV stations (in addition to our current 3), servicing all three of our main parking areas. The combination of these two technologies excites us and helps to solve a major concern; the environmental cost of travel to the Mirror Lake Inn. With these systems in place, 100% of our electrical production comes from renewable sources, either through onsite solar or local hydroelectric.

While it is our goal to reduce our carbon footprint, we respect there are certain aspects that define the hotel experience to many. We invite all our guests to join us on this journey to reach out sustainability goals and want to provide the opportunity to make this a seamless part of your Mirror Lake Inn experience. However, we also always want our guests to be comfortable knowing we are always happy to provide whatever services and amenities will make your stay complete.
