Best among Adirondack Mountain hotels

Lake Placid – As a AAA Four Diamond property the past 39 consecutive years, it stands to reason that the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa is considered at the top of the list of Adirondack Mountain hotels, particularly among luxe establishments.

This iconic property in Upstate New York, which boasts of its cleanliness and friendliness, will turn 100 in 2024. Over the years, the Mirror Lake Inn has continued its policies of reinvesting in itself.

There was the makeover of 92 units in its main house; modernization and enlargement of several lodging units in the Lake Cottage; update to its spa sanctuary; creation of more square footage in the kitchen servicing The View Restaurant; new hard surface flooring in the restaurant; a sustainability initiative; and let’s also consider the $500,000 in COVID protocols to keep guests healthy and safe during the pinnacle of the pandemic, measures which largely remain in place today.

All told, longtime owners Ed and Lisa Weibrecht put some $5 million into this Adirondack property in recent years. They will proudly tell you that its in-house construction company made all of this a reality.

The aforementioned The View Restaurant, AAA Four Diamond rated the last 16 years, is the only Lake Placid fine dining restaurant carrying the Four Diamond distinction.

Executive Chef Curtiss Hemm presents a seasonal farm to table concept that highlights the terroir of the Adirondacks. Chef Hemm, who also doubles as the food and beverage director, works with some 10 regional farms – providing produce, local cheeses, poultry, beef and more – to satisfy the palates of The View’s discerning guests.

To round out the upscale dining presentation, The View has received the Wine Spectator Award for 23 straight years, the past five years achieving the coveted two glass honor, indicative of the Best Of designation.

The breakfast it serves to house guests, locals and visitors alike stands out with Adirondack Flapjacks, its famous Mirror Lake Inn Granola, Vermont country farm sausage, applewood smoked bacon, smoked salmon and a variety of egg plates made to order. Partake in the breakfast buffet or select from a new a la carte menu, including Acai Bowl or fresh berries and Crème Fraiche, for dining room or in-room dining.

The Cottage Café is Lake Placid’s hip lakeside location for happy hour, lunch and dinner in both indoor and outdoor settings. Cottage chili, its original nachos, tomato caprese and many other favorites keep its loyal guests returning.

The critically acclaimed Mirror Lake Inn Spa, including salon and fitness center, remains the area’s best oasis for relaxation, rejuvenation and recovery. This Lake Placid spa comes complete with lap pool, sauna and jacuzzi, as well as body treatments (by appointment) such as the Adirondack Maple Sugar Body Scrub, Red Carpet Facial, Salt Therapy, advanced skin care and much more.

Among other amenities that may be enjoyed into the fall season in Lake Placid are the outdoor pool heated (82 degrees), and the private beach on Mirror Lake.

However, many guests of all ages enjoy the quiet comfort of our library and living room, both around a common fireplace. This is where they can thumb through a newspaper or magazine, scroll through an electronic device, enjoy a homemade chocolate chip cookie and hot beverage, or play a board game.

And if you wish to visit our Main Street, it will just require a two-minute walk from our front door to get there.

In addition, the Inn’s sister property, the Whiteface Club and Resort, just three miles away, offers championship golf, cross country skiing, golf course and lakeside restaurants, tennis, beach, marina, and wedding gardens, all in the midst of a spectacular residential community.

Put all of this together and it’s clear to see how browsers of Tripadvisor.com have placed the Mirror Lake Inn at the top of their list in the luxury Adirondack Mountain hotel category.
