Consider a babymoon

LAKE PLACID – There are scores of reasons to spend time in the Adirondacks of Upstate New York. Many of them surround physical activities, enjoying the peace and serenity of the region, or immersing yourself with some of the cleanest water on our planet. It’s also a place to relax and reconnect – not only with nature but with ourselves.

Many couples take advantage of such opportunities and stay with us at the Mirror Lake Inn. And now more and more, as these couples take steps into parenthood, there can be a need to get away prior to the arrival of the newest family member, with each partner enjoying the company of the other. Hence, the concept of the babymoon has become part of our lexicon. Similar to a honeymoon where the couples celebrate their recent matrimony, the babymoon provides an opportunity for the parents to enjoy quality time together prior to birth.

According to Healthline:

The months following the birth of a new baby are a roller coaster. The point of a babymoon is to enjoy one last hurrah or adventure before giving birth. Some couples plan a babymoon before the birth of their first child, to have one last vacation as a couple. But, of course, there’s no rule that says you can “only” take a babymoon with your first baby — or only if you’re part of a couple. You can do it for each pregnancy or totally on your own, if you like.

If the Mirror Lake Inn is anything, it is family-oriented. Not just in the guests that stay with us, but with the staff that attends to our visitors. Many are longtime employees who are parents themselves. When babymooners arrive here, they are well understood and well served. We have even created a babymoon package to help parents/new parents enjoy this special time prior to arrival.

In addition, our world class spa also has appropriate activities for the expectant mother, including a gentle, pampering massage designed to relax and alleviate those areas subject to pressure and muscle tension. Relax in the therapist’s hands while your body is comfortably supported with our state-of-the-art pregnancy pillow. Sessions are available for 50 or 80 minutes.

The spa does offer “The Expecting Mother” package which is a 50 minute prenatal massage, Refresher Manicure, Refresher Pedicure and Shampoo Blowout- this is 3 hours long and $220. Couples can enjoy a couples massage together on their babymoon as well. Expecting mothers can also enjoy hair services and facials.

If there is anything we can recommend, it would be to schedule a babymoon earlier in the pregnancy rather than later. Consider second trimester – after morning sickness and prior to the fatigue that many women experience in the third trimester. After that, just leave yourselves in the hands of our professional and capable staff.

It’s also important to note that we are still very vigilant when it comes to COVID and your health. Currently, ALL guests must wear masks when inside any part of our hotel, no matter if they have been vaccinated. Health and safety is paramount here, especially with expectant mothers. So rest assured that we have not backed off on our protocols that include ultraviolet blue light technology in the form of floor canisters and ceiling fans, hand sanitizers throughout the Inn, thermal imaging at reception areas for temperature checks, remote check-in, fire pits to encourage staying outside where our mountain air is crisp and clean, and of course, social distancing.
