Special holiday season in Upstate New York

Lake Placid – Everyone deserves a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, and at the AAA Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn in Upstate New York, we’re ready to welcome visitors to our house at this most wonderful time of the year.

Our exterior lights across all seven acres are now in place as is our inside décor, all designed to create a most festive spirit. And now, the final piece of the picture has been added, namely a two-foot snowfall in the past few days.

As much as guests enjoy this atmosphere around the hotel, we encourage them to experience our great outdoors. With all this new snow, the timing is perfect. You might consider the following recommendations as Lake Placid’s Christmas presents to you.

Ski, ride and stride in Lake Placid, the Olympic village

With all this natural snow, coupled with weeks of snowmaking at Whiteface Mountain, more trails and lifts are opening daily for skiers and riders. Check the conditions report for the latest information.

If you are a Nordic skier, our sister property, the Whiteface Club and Resort, turns its championship golf course into a cross-country skier’s paradise. It’s less than three miles from the Inn. Mirror Lake Inn guests have complimentary trail access. The only charge is for rental equipment.

The Champagne of Thrills

The sport of bobsledding has been known as this for decades. Lake Placid proudly offers the layman’s experience at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. Visitors can ride the final half-mile of the track that just hosted World Cup bobsled and skeleton races. You’ll be taken down the course with a certified driver and brakeman at speeds between 50 and 60 miles-per-hour, based on weather and conditions. Reservations must be made in advance. Phone 518-523-2811.

Skating on an historic site

Just one mile from the hotel, locals and visitors alike take great pleasure in skating laps on the Olympic Oval. This is where Eric Heiden won an unprecedented five Olympic gold medals in 1980. The oval has recently been updated. You can enjoy the exertion as you work up an appetite, or digest a big meal, or meet friends for some socializing.

There will also be skating on the Mirror Lake Inn’s tennis court.

When you return from an active day, change into your swim suit and visit our world class spa. Soak your aching bones in our jacuzzi, relax in our Adirondack sauna, or swim easy laps in our pool.

The new Olympic Museum

The Olympic Center, adjacent to the oval, has been reimagined with over $100 million of state money. There are three ice rinks, a new restaurant and the second iteration of the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. This is where you’ll learn about the community’s legacy as a two-time Winter Olympic host.

If you intend to spend the holidays with us, please make yourself at home with complimentary cookies and hot beverages in our living room area near the front desk and sit near the fireplace.

Also, guests will find fire pits on our property. Bring your favorite beverage outside and gather around a warm fire.

Our AAA Four Diamond rated restaurant, The View, will offer special holiday features on its menu. If you intend to have dinner with us, reservations are required and should be made asap by calling 518-302-3000.

Overlooking Mirror Lake, guests have enjoyed The Cottage Café as a cool pub and apres ski spot. One of the highlights of this holiday season will be dining outside in a heated Whiteface Mountain gondola cabin and enjoying a drink around the outdoor stove.

We want your days here to be merry and bright. After all, everyone deserves that.
