Lake Placid – The perfect storms have hit the Lake Placid Adirondack region.
In recent weeks, temps have dropped, ample snow has fallen, snow is being made, and events are rolling in. All told, it will be a December to remember. Winter is here and it’s not leaving.

As we write this blog, Whiteface Mountain is off to one of its best season starts in history. Already over 50 percent of the 1980 Olympic Mountain is open for skiing and riding. Little Whiteface, the summit and Bear Den have been welcoming snowsports enthusiasts.
The Mirror Lake Inn’s sister property, the Whiteface Club and Resort, has seen its renowned golf course morph into a brilliant 10-mile network of cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. Guests of the Inn, by the way, can enjoy complimentary use of those trails, just three miles from the hotel.
At the Olympic Nordic network at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, there’s more than six miles of terrain open for all ability levels.
So if you are coming to the Adirondacks for the holidays this month, rest assured that you can partake in all of these activities, as well as skating on the Sheffield Olympic Oval on Main Street. This is the site of Eric Heiden’s five Olympic gold medals in 1980. Indoor skating will also be on the docket in the Lake Placid Olympic Center right next to the oval.
Lake Placid augments these physical activities with a yearly lineup of world class competitions, and with the 2026 Winter Olympics just two months away in Milan/Cortina, expect to see Olympians of the past and the future try to qualify for their respective Olympic teams right here over December and January.

The Mirror Lake Inn, with its AAA Four Diamond lodging and dining offerings, as well as its European spa, is in the midst of it all. We are within 10 miles of all this recreational and competitive action. No place in the Eastern United States can make this claim.
As good as this all sounds, we are looking to announce more exciting news in the coming weeks….news that will entice visitors to spend time in our Upstate New York community and our hotel this winter.
