Lake Placid is ready to March into the final full month of winter

Lake Placid There are very few resort experiences that offer as much after dark as they do in daylight. But here in the Adirondacks, Lake Placid is that rare exception where you can ski and ride on world-class alpine and Nordic trails by day, and also enjoy outstanding events away from the slopes.

This Upstate New York community is blessed to have hosted two Winter Olympics, so with that come the venues that can host hockey, biathlon, Nordic skiing, sliding sports and more. There is no resort east of the Rockies that can say this.

In other words, with longer and warmer days in March, the time is right to book that late-winter ski/snowboard vacation. You will find yourself enjoying higher sun and softer snow at Whiteface Mountain.

While you’re here in the Adirondacks, let’s go over the main events that will occur in Lake Placid in March.

Lake Placid Herb Brooks Arena
Four teams will compete but just one will emerge with the Whitelaw Trophy

The ECAC Men’s Division I hockey championships return to the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid. The final four teams will play for the title March 22-23 in a completely renovated and updated facility. The tournament winner receives an automatic berth to the 2024 NCAA Championships.

International bobsled racing is held in men’s, women’s and monobob divisions

That same week – March 21 to 23 – you’ll see the fastest athletes in winter sports. World Cup bobsled and skeleton racing at Mt. Van Hoevenberg is not to be missed. Prior to race days, the athletes will have several days of training on the circuit’s most demanding track. They will try to figure out its nuances before the competition actually begins.

These sledding sports offer fans unique opportunities to get thisclose to the action as sleds burst past you at 80 miles per hour. Whether you are perched at the start, or decide to get up close to hell-raising speed at curve 10, you will leave this event shocked by it and raving about it.

There you have it – a March to remember, one that sees spring break begin in late March and conclude in early April just prior to the solar eclipse. And of course, the AAA Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn, a top Lake Placid resort and spa, is close by and amongst all of it.

Skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, ice skating, cross-country skiing AND a pair of events to keep you spinning all day and night. Only in Lake Placid.
