Lake Placid – For the past 40 straight years, the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa in Lake Placid has claimed the AAA Four Diamond Award of Excellence, second longest in all of New York State. Now it can add the Michelin Guide One Key designation to its list of distinguished awards.
Michelin Guide released the information recently, and now includes the 100-year-old Lake Placid resort on its roster of One Key lodging properties. There are just 207 such locales in the entire country and only nine in the state.
“Travelers worldwide have come to know Michelin Guide for their recognition of the best lodging properties,” said Ed Weibrecht, owner of the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa. “Not only are we honored to receive the One Key distinction, but we look at this as recognition of our staff and the wonderful job they do in making our house feel like a home to thousands of people. I want to congratulate and thank every Mirror Lake Inn department for making this happen.”
“The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our team of experts, the Key hotels represent the highlights of our broader selection,” according to the Michelin website. “Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys are our most outstanding hotels.”
Michelin considers properties that significantly add to the traveler’s experience. Each are vetted and judged excellent in five categories, according to the website: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.

Michelin’s summary of the Mirror Lake Inn says, “its atmosphere remains delightfully timeless, its comforts have been upgraded and the spa includes a salt-therapy room and a 60-foot indoor pool. The View is the higher-end of the two restaurants, while The Cottage Café does a fine après-ski. This two-time Winter Olympics site excels at snow sports, but the Adirondacks are magical year-round.”
The time-honored Lake Placid / Upstate New York resort offers 124 units, all overlooking Mirror Lake and the stunning Adirondack High Peaks. In addition to its two distinct dining establishments, the Mirror Lake Inn has a world class spa with massage treatment rooms and sanctuaries, salon, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sauna, jacuzzi and a newly enlarged and modernized fitness center.
Finally, as winter is just several months away, the hotel is the only lodging facility in Lake Placid with its own ski rental and tuning shop.
