Salt is not only a seasoning for our favorite foods, but beyond that, we need to know that salt is a healing agent. The Spa at the Mirror Lake Inn, in the Upstate New York village of Lake Placid, has recently tapped into that concept with the addition of salt therapy.
“Personally, after my salt therapy sessions, I feel like I can take deeper breaths, breathe easier and have more energy,” said Victoria Dow, Spa Manager. This cuts to the core of salt therapy, recognized for its respiratory hygiene for people of all ages.
The Mirror Lake Inn, at the tip of the Adirondacks, has added this to its spa menu, and the results have been noteworthy.
“Very relaxing and beneficial, definitely a must to check out,” wrote Alexis D on TripAdvisor.com.
Guests, in general, have commented that salt therapy leaves them relaxed and able to breathe better. The question now becomes: why?
The notion of salt therapy has its roots in Europe; halo is the Greek word for salt. Dry salt, used in this process which is also called halo therapy, is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits. It is all natural, pure grade sodium chloride, and has no additives. The key to salt therapy is the use of a halo-generator, which applies a smaller concentration of salt that penetrates the skin and respiratory system, leading to natural cleansing and detoxification.
Those at the front end of the salt therapy method say it also positively impacts the lungs, provides pH balance, helps fight psoriasis, eczema, acne, rosacea, dry and flaky skin, snoring, seasonal allergies, symptoms of COPD, asthma and more.
Many people who live here and those who visit Lake Placid – a vibrant athletic community with world-class sports medicine expertise – can benefit from salt therapy which, as stated earlier, is essentially respiratory hygiene. It enables better recovery time from athletic activity and the stress that comes from it.
