Ski with Andrew

LAKE PLACID –Here’s your chance to ski with Andrew Weibrecht and experience a multitude of upgrades at Whiteface Mountain.

In the spring, Andrew, son of Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa owners Ed and Lisa Weibrecht, ended a 16-year alpine skiing career that included Olympic silver and bronze medals. That announcement, however, opened a door for recreational skiers who are guests of the AAA Four Diamond resort in Lake Placid, located just 10 miles from the 1980 Olympic mountain.

And that mountain will offer enhancements to snowmaking, grooming and the family experience.

Starting this winter, hotel guests, exclusively, will be able to ski with Andrew down the slopes of Whiteface Mountain – This link opens in a new browser tab. The 1980 Olympic site is where he learned his craft with his two brothers. Now he’ll take you down those same slopes at speeds comfortable for all skiers and on appropriate terrain for their ability levels.

On hill sessions will be limited to no more than five people, and will occur from 8 AM to 12 PM.

“It’s been great getting more involved in the family business over the summer since my retirement,” said Andrew. “With our first snow flurries in the air, I’m now getting excited to explore my home mountain and share my love of skiing with Mirror Lake Inn guests throughout the winter. If guests have questions for me about the program, they are always welcome to contact me directly at andrew@mirrorlakeinn.com – This link will open your default email application.”

Also, Weibrecht will appear with Mirror Lake Inn staff at upcoming ski and travel shows in Albany (Nov. 2-3 in the Capital Center) and in New York City (Jan. 27-28 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center). He will meet attendees at both events and will be available to discuss your ski with Andrew experience with him.

More details of this exclusive ski with Andrew offer can be found on the Mirror Lake Inn website. Guests can sign up individually, as part of a group of five, or reserve a group of five for an uber-exclusive and private experience.

The opportunity to accompany Andrew is geared for those who have some ability to ski; it is not instructional in nature and not available to those who have never skied. Those who would like to learn this lifelong sport are encouraged to seek instruction from the Whiteface Mountain Ski School.

For more information including available dates, please call the Mirror Lake Inn at 518-523-2544 – This link will open your default phone application and speak with one of our on-site reservationists.

As we prepare for the season that will (hopefully) begin at Thanksgiving, if the weather permits, mountain management is striving to complete significant capital improvement projects.

Bear Den Lodge
Expansion of the Bear Den Lodge is among the improvements families will see this season at Whiteface Mountain

The Bear Den area, formerly Kid’s Kampus, is growing. There will be two new conveyor lifts for the beginning skier. Also, the accompanying Bear Den Lodge, is expanding so mom and dad can easily watch their children in room temperature.

Also, Whiteface has made major updates to their main pump house for snowmaking; they have 100 new snow guns, thus increasing the capacity 25 percent; and trails such as Broadway, Brookside and Easy Street have been widened.

Given all of the above, now’s the time to make your skiing and boarding plans as the season is just weeks away. Get your gear ready and get the legs in shape. In the meantime, we ask all of our friends, guests and followers to keep thinking snow. October was chilly with a little snowfall, while November has started in the same vein. Let’s hope it’s the sign of a great season!
