Thanksgiving experiences abound in Lake Placid

Lake Placid – Visitors coming to our Upstate New York community for the Thanksgiving weekend will have a nice menu to enjoy in addition to plates of turkey.

Skiers and riders can burn calories at Whiteface Mountain during the day, and take in NCAA Division I men’s hockey action at night. It’s the Adirondack Winter Invitational with teams from Providence College, UMass-Lowell, Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University converging on the Lake Placid Olympic Center on Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 4:00.

The site of the Miracle on Ice will host the Adirondack Winter Invitational Nov. 29-30

Other experiences in Lake Placid will include: a visit to the Olympic Museum; guided tours of the Olympic Center, site of the Miracle on Ice; the Legacy Tour and indoor climbing both at Mt. Van Hoevenberg; a ride on a skeleton sled; and the views from the SkyRide at the Olympic Jumping Complex starting Friday, Nov 29.

While you’re here, be on the lookout for additional activities that could be added to the schedule, such as public skating hours on the Sheffield Speed Skating Oval on Main Street which is tentatively slated to open on the afternoon of Nov. 30, and some cross country skiing at the Olympic Sports Complex. Weather and conditions will determine these.

Given our quaint and unique village, visitors should make time to peruse the many shops and eateries that line our Main Street. From Italian/American, to Tex-Mex to Indian fare to Asian and Greek cuisine, and of course, the Mirror Lake Inn’s own The View Restaurant and The Cottage Cafe, every palate will be sated here.
