Olympic Sports Complex (bobsled, luge, skeleton, cross country skiing, biathlon)

Located just five minutes outside Lake Placid on Rte. 73, the Olympic Sports Complex is currently under significant renovation, courtesy of New York State. It is the site of world class training and competitions in these sports, as well as recreational use by residents and visitors alike. The sliding track is open from October to April, while the Nordic skiing and biathlon trails on Mount Van Hoevenberg have artificial snowmaking for early seasonal openings, with the season extending into April, based on snow and weather conditions. The trails are also open to snow shoers.

The same trails in summer time are used for mountain biking.

Highlights in 2021 at the sliding track will include World Cup luge racing in January 2021 and the World Championships in bobsled and skeleton in February 2021. The participating athletes include many that race in the Winter Olympics. You can see them here, up close, at a fraction of the Olympic cost.
